Known to family and friends as Ian but it's under the pseudonym of Liquid Lounge that you'll
probably be more familiar with or more likely to have heard of...
Like any other dj, Ian cut his teeth at house parties and small one-off club events but it was
playing in the chill out at one of the legendary Mansion Parties, circa 1994, that he got his first
'big break' - playing a quirky mix of abstract electronica, Pink Floyd, Indian raga's and dub - that caught the attention of a show co-ordinator for Dream FM (infamous Leeds based 'pirate' radio station) and was asked to present a show, as Dream FM had an opening for the type of chill out, dub and downtempo music that Ian, was then, currently play listing…
...the Liquid Lounge was born.
The weekly show on Sunday evenings began to pull in a sizeable and regular audience,
gaining support and recognition from record companies, magazines and dj’s alike and
quickly gained a sizeable reputation for featuring the best in downtempo electronica, ambient and chilled dub, woven together perfectly in the 2 hour show.
Through the popularity of the show, Ian was asked to be a resident/regular dj for clubs and
events such as - Dream, Sunday Service, (which was an early incarnation of the world renowned Sub Dub), Templehead, Dubterranean, Recovery, Party On, Stimulations, 10 Bar
and Frequency... as well as playing at clubs, parties, festivals and gatherings all over the north of England...
Playing and partying hard throughout the late 90's took it's toll - dj'ing techno, chill out and
dub, as well as a side project called 3 SpyReal, composing and playing hard edged, 303 acid
techno, which achieved some local and minor notoriety - Ian became dis-disillusioned by the scene and following the death of a close friend and musical collaborator, he took a break in the new millennium, to concentrate on other projects - taking time to travel, to rest and recuperate and
have time away from dj'ing and the scene surrounding it all...
While on this break, Ian discovered the digital aspect of dj'ing and found a renewed appetite
for music again…
So ditching the vinyl (no more heavy record boxes to carry...!) and opting for cd's instead, the technology gave Ian the versatility and a fresh, invigorating approach to dj'ing and to present the music he is so passionate about...
Moving with the times, Ian now utilises the technology of a laptop and Traktor controller for his music presentation.
A few years ago, the Liquid Lounge was asked to be an exclusive resident dj at "Secret Chill" - a private, invite only event that was held on or around the night of a full moon or a significant pagan date.
Each event was held in a varied and odd venue - be it a windmill, a folly, stone circle, Victorian conservatory, gatehouse, tithe barn etc - with the continuing theme being chilled, laidback and of a downtempo nature...
It was while playing at "Secret Chill" that Ian's interest was 'sparked' in to playing out at
more events again and this has seen the Liquid Lounge regularly playing at - Whirl-y-Gig, Sunrise, Remedy, Whitedogs, as well as appearances at Inspiral Lounge, Osmosis, Chilled in the Woods, Couch, Noise, Trades Club, Beats Bizarre and more... as well as being a member of 'Litlte Fun Guy' sound system
The Liquid Lounge has also shared the bill, (providing dj support), with The Orb, Eat Static, Banco de Gaia, Globular, Tripswitch, Terra Nine, Mote, for one-off events along the way...
Also playing along side his Shanti Planti colleagues - Land Switcher, Quanta, Akasha Experience and Wolf Tech...
As well as club events and gigs, the Liquid Lounge has played at - Rainbow Serpent (Aus),
Whirl-y-Fayre, Sunise Celebration, Triplicity, Beat-Herder, Sundance, Alchemy, Bearded Theory, Blackpearl,
Playing For Change and Shamania festivals amongst others...

...and all woven together in his own meandering style...
I think it is safe to say that the Liquid Lounge can be counted as one of the UK’s premier chill/downtempo dj’s…
Combining sofa sinking chill, psychedelia and global bass, all woven together in the
Liquid Lounge style…
